GKS 2.0 has been in effect since July 1, 2026. New hospitality businesses subject to this requirement must immediately begin using a GKS 2.0-certified cash register and fiscal data module. Existing businesses are granted a transition period based on the purchase date of their current cash register.
Both the point-of-sale software and the tax data module must be officially GKS 2.0-certified.
Existing stores will transition no later than 2027, 2028, or early 2029, depending on the checkout date.
The network, registration, hardware, software, and installation are planned as a single project.
OmEs pay will install the configuration provided and will remain available for technical support 7 days a week.
GKS 2.0 modernizes the registered cash register system. The POS software communicates via a new protocol with an updated fiscal data module, also known as an FDM or black box. This module transmits receipt details online to the Federal Public Service Finance’s cloud environment. The system also supports new features such as digital receipts and duplicate receipts.
So the black box isn’t going away. It’s being updated. A compliant setup consists of a GKS 2.0-certified cash register and a GKS 2.0-certified FDM, both registered and installed in accordance with the official procedure.
Starting July 1, 2026, new hospitality businesses that require a registered cash register system must immediately opt for GKS 2.0. Existing businesses with a GKS will be granted a transition period. The official deadline is determined by the purchase date of the current cash register, not by the purchase date of the fiscal data module.
The general hospitality threshold is exceeded when the annual revenue from restaurant and catering services, excluding VAT and excluding beverages, exceeds 25,000 euros. Sales of beverages, takeout meals, and regular food sales are not included in the calculation of this threshold.
The GKS rules include exceptions and special situations, such as those involving different activities or business units. Visit the FPS Finance website and have your accountant confirm how the rules apply to your specific business. OmEs pay provides technical guidance, not a tax certificate.
A GKS migration involves more than just connecting a new device. Menu or product data, users, printers, payment terminals, accounting integrations, and business processes must all be transferred. Registration, delivery, and training also take time. Furthermore, as a legal deadline approaches, the pressure on suppliers and installers increases.
Therefore, well in advance of your deadline, make a list of which POS system you have, when it was purchased, which integrations are active, and which parts need to be replaced. Plan the go-live for a manageable time and not right before a busy season.
Flowmate announces that its hospitality point-of-sale software is GKS 2.0-certified. OmEs pay assembles the point-of-sale system, compatible FDM, payment terminal, and necessary hardware; assists with the practical setup; and tests the operational workflow on-site.
Certification statuses and models are subject to change. Therefore, always check the current official list of certified systems when requesting a quote or during installation. After the system goes live, you can count on technical support seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Your accountant or the Federal Public Service Finance will confirm the tax implications; the official e-service displays the known deadline.
The register, purchase date, FDM, printers, payment terminal, network, and connections are listed.
OmEs pay selects the current Flowmate and FDM combination and schedules registration and installation.
Data, tickets, payments, corrections, and reports are verified before the old system is decommissioned.
Let OmEs pay assess your current POS system and technical setup. You’ll receive a realistic migration plan for your POS, FDM, payments, and integrations, tailored to your business hours and peak periods.
GKS 2.0 is the next generation of the Belgian registered cash register system. The cash register communicates with a new fiscal data module that transmits receipt details online to the FPS Finance. The system also includes modern features.
Yes, GKS 2.0 has been mandatory since July 1, 2026, for new hospitality businesses subject to the GKS regulations. Existing GKS users have a transition period based on the purchase date of their current point-of-sale system.
No. The tax data module will remain in use and will be updated. For GKS 2.0, both the cash register and the FDM or black box must be GKS 2.0-certified.
Cash registers purchased before January 1, 2018: no later than July 1, 2027. Purchased between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2021: no later than July 1, 2028. Purchased on or after January 1, 2022: no later than January 1, 2029.
According to official information, if you have purchased multiple cash registers, the date of the most recent purchase applies. The purchase date of the fiscal data module does not count toward the transition deadline. Check your GKS e-service.
The general rule applies to businesses with more than 25,000 euros in revenue (excluding VAT) from restaurant and catering services, excluding beverages. Takeout and regular sales of food and beverages do not count toward the threshold. Exceptions must be officially reviewed.
GKS 2.0 uses online data transfer via the updated FDM. The technical documentation specifies how to handle temporary connection issues. Ensure you have a stable network and discuss redundancy and recovery procedures with your supplier.
Flowmate states that its hospitality point-of-sale software is GKS 2.0-certified. When making a purchase, always check the current official certification list and the exact software and FDM combination that will be installed.
This may be possible if the terminal, payment partner, and new POS configuration are compatible. The terminal itself does not need to be GKS-certified, but the POS integration must work reliably with the new software. OmEs pay verifies this in advance.
The Federal Public Service Finance enforces the regulations, and your accountant can assess your situation. OmEs pay assists with technical assessments, certified components, and installation, but does not provide binding tax advice.
