Will the black box be removed in GKS 2.0? No: this is what FDM 2.0 does

The Federal Public Service Finance refers to this component as a Fiscal Data Module (FDM), often called a “black box” in practice. In GKS 2.0, the cash register communicates with an updated FDM via a new protocol. That module transmits receipt details online to the government’s cloud server.

Kassa and FDM together make up the system

A compliant setup requires both a GKS 2.0-certified cash register and a GKS 2.0-certified fiscal data module. Therefore, a certified cash register without a compatible FDM does not constitute a complete GKS 2.0 setup.

What technical changes are being made?

Communication between the cash register and the FDM is being modernized. The updated FDM sends ticket details online to the Federal Public Service (FOD) Finance. GKS 2.0 also supports features such as digital receipts and duplicate receipts.

The specific offline and recovery mechanisms comply with the official technical specifications and the implementation of the certified products.

On our GKS 2.0 Page You can read more about the technical changes and the updated FDM.

What does this mean for your network?

Since online data transmission is becoming part of the workflow, your network must be stable and secure. Assess your router, cabling, Wi-Fi, and any fallback options. Do not place tax-related components on a public or poorly managed network without a plan.

Discuss what happens in the event of temporary connection issues and how the status is checked.

What needs to be replaced?

Whether existing screens, printers, payment terminals, or network components can remain in use depends on their compatibility and condition. The current GKS cash register and FDM must ultimately be replaced with certified GKS 2.0 components by the deadline.

Assess each component individually rather than automatically classifying everything as either new or worth keeping.

Effective Communication with Business Owners

  • Say: a new cash register and a new FDM
  • Please note: ticket details will be sent online
  • Note: Official certification of both components is required
  • Avoid: “The black box is disappearing”
  • Avoid: “Digital certificates alone are sufficient”

Making the right choice starts with how you operate

GKS 2.0 digitizes and modernizes the fiscal cash flow, but does not eliminate the black box. The updated FDM remains an essential, certified component alongside the cash register.
